Dot Bardarson
Dot Bardarson’s studio is her favorite place, overlooking majestic mountains rising out of the Kenai Fjords, a constant reminder of how lucky she is to be an artist in Alaska. Alaska has been good to her in many ways and has recognized her as one of its outstanding producing artists through awards in juried shows. She was nominated for the Governor’s awards for the arts in 2010. TOSCA named her Alaska Artist of the year in 2011. In 2014 she was honored by the Seward Arts Council and named Queen of the Arts.
Her early years of marriage found her living aboard a cannery tender as a deck-hand and later as “first lady” at various outlying salmon & crab canneries in Alaska. She always found time to paint, however, as well as raise 3 fabulous children there, all of whom settled in Seward and became leaders and parents themselves. Her colorful watercolors usually tell a story with Alaska sea life, birds, flowers, or Eskimo-Native themes.
