Artist's narrative: During one winter, the artist watched seagulls on a weekly basis at a  marina north of Ketchikan. During his weekly visit he came to the know gulls' distinct personalities.

Ketchikan artist Dick Miller captures the marine landscape of Southeast Alaska through his watercolors of boats at rest and at work in all kinds of weather - bright sun, soft fog, and sometimes turbulent seas. His watercolors reflect his close acquaintance with the area around Ketchikan - the mountains, the beaches the flora, and the waters.
