Artist's narrative: In the early 1930s a favorite niece traveled by Canadian steamship from Ketchikan to Vancouver, BC to introduce her bridegroom to her elderly aunt who was housebound. Auntie Tene, delighted with their visit, pleased with their marriage, but utterly distressed at not having a gift for them, pressed $5 into her niece's hand to "buy something special." That something special was this teapot- and a creamer and sugar- purchased that same day and eventually becoming a family treasure.
Ketchikan artist Dick Miller captures the marine landscape of Southeast Alaska through his watercolors of boats at rest and at work in all kinds of weather - bright sun, soft fog, and sometimes turbulent seas. His watercolors reflect his close acquaintance with the area around Ketchikan - the mountains, the beaches the flora, and the waters.
