Artist's narrative: Chinese Lanterns have great childhood memories for me. My Aunt Alma lived in the country and I was a city mouse and loved visiting her home and roaming the wood looking for orange salamanders and the elusive Chinese Lantern plants. They would grow in the under-story and I just never knew when I would happen upon one. They have white flower but turn orange as they mature which made then somewhat easier to find. I loved their delicacy but also the bright orange seeds encased within the pod. I found these carved Carnelian beads a few years ago and thought how fitting for this design.
